On February 13th and 14th, masks donated by Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, a sister province of Guangdong, were delivered to Guangzhou.

Since the epidemic broke out, Hyogo Prefecture has been supporting Guangdong in various ways. Hyogo donated most of their masks to Guangdong, from their own stocks for disaster prevention. It is also the largest single donation from a Japanese local government since the outbreak. The donation was supported by the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka and the Japanese Consulate General in Guangzhou.

The masks donated by Hyogo are disposable non-woven masks, which will be distributed to more than 1300 civil service institutions across the province, including elderly care homes, children's protection and rescue stations, marriage registration institutions and funeral homes. They will be used in the protection of more than 100,000 people from vulnerable groups and more than 20,000 people working on the front line, Chen Qi, Deputy director general of the Department of Civil Affairs of Guangdong Province explained.

“If two are united as one, their strength can cut through metal. People of the two countries have forged a sincere and enduring relationship”, said Ishizuka Hideki, Consul General of Japan.

Guangdong province and Hyogo Prefecture have officially been sister provinces since March, 1983. Toshizo Ido, the governor of Hyogo Prefecture who organized and coordinated the donation, wrote to Ma Xingrui, the governor of Guangdong in person after this epidemic broke out, expressing his deep concern.

Western Japan China Enterprise Federation, Shanghai Yida Logistics Co., Ltd., China Southern Airlines Group Co., Ltd., China International Aviation Co., Ltd. and the Guangdong Branch of China Post delivered the masks cost free, ensuring their smooth and timely arrival in Guangzhou.
